A new Danish home retail brand has opened Portlaoise. JYSK pronounced “Yusk” is a Danish homewares retailer. Similar to IKEA JYSK specialises in Scandinavian ideals of sleeping and living and provides, “everything you need for the home”.

Founder Lars Larsen established his first store in 1979 and through global ambition has grown the company to more than 2,700 stores in 52 countries. Today the group’s annual turnover is €3.58bn employing 23,000 staff worldwide.

With 15 stores set to open across Ireland by 2020 the Portlaoise store will join Naas, Drogheda and Navan in fulfilling its ambitions of creating 200 jobs in Ireland.

Speaking about the companies Irish expansion Founder Lars Larsen said,

“We are excited to welcome the Irish customers and present them to our assortment and the Scandinavian culture, which has been an important part of making JYSK a success in all the other countries, where we have opened. When we look at the market, we have very high hopes that JYSK will have great opportunities to expand in Ireland.”

JYSK Portlaoise opened on Friday, the 30th of August in Laois Shopping Centre on the external lower ground floor.
